Soap Shaker Classic
Reduce plastic pollution, wash toxic free and waste free – transition to traditional Stainless-Steel Soap Shaker!
A classic version of stainless steel soap shaker is our legacy model - old is gold - and we take pride to house it under our array of soap shakers abode.
A Soap Shaker, when combined with your recycled dishwashing soap bar, is used to make a soapy bowl of warm water for handwashing dishes. It’s the old fashioned way of washing up! Perfect for reducing your use of plastic bottles with dishwashing detergent.
It is compact, easy to store upright or hang when not in use. This allows the dish soap to drain and dry between uses.
You can also use a soap shaker to make soapy water for hand washing clothes or even when running a warm soapy bath!
Weight: 99.7 gms
Size: 9.6 x 4.1 x 1.4 inches
Material: 304 Grade Stainless Steel
Directions of use: Always rinse food from dishes before washing. Put your favourite soap bar or block of soap in the steel cage. Soap of 3.5 inches long, 2.5 inches wide and a little over 1 inch thick will easily fit. Then run the water and shake the soap swisher under the water to create environmentally friendly suds for dish washing. You can even hand wash clothes or make a soapy bath. Store the soap shaker upright if possible so it can drain and dry quickly. Suitable for off grid cabin living, where you don't have an electric dishwasher.
This soap shaker fits a full-size bar of soap. For best results, pair it with our cleaning soap (which is made specifically for cleaning rather than bathing) or you can use up all the leftover small bits of soap from the bathroom.
The soap shaker will work best for those with soft water (particularly rainwater tanks). If you have hard water, you will find that it forms scum and the bubbles don't last as long (that is just the soap reacting with the calcium in the water).
When the soap gets too small to stay in the cage, just slip the old piece in alongside the new bar. Zero waste!
Please note that the soap is not included with this product.
Grandma's way of dish-washing: Our grannies probably had one of these by the sink for cleaning the dishes. A soap shaker (also known as a soap saver or suds maker) is an old-school and sustainable way of using a bar of soap for the washing up. Perfect for homesteaders. It can also be used to dissolve soap for hand washing in the laundry or putting bubbles in the bath.
Steel Soap Shakers are the perfect way to reduce plastic in the kitchen - no more bottles of dish-washing liquid, just use bars of soap.
Reasons to use erda Soap Shakers (aka Soap Cage): Dish-washing detergents usually contain toxic chemicals, artificial fragrances, SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (monoethanolamine), TEA (triethanolamine), surfactants, chlorine, dispensing aids, and colours, mildness additives, preservatives and antibacterial agents. Once the waste water finds its way into the natural water bodies, it is toxic to aquatic organisms and likely won’t be filtered out at water treatment facilities.
Dish-washing detergents contain ammonia and phosphate. These are naturally occurring substances and presence in waste water results in depletion of dissolved oxygen in the water bodies which is vital for the survival of many aquatic species. It results in formation of algae and phytoplankton feed on it and reproduce in massive numbers, causing an algal bloom. Researchers estimate that more than 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic have been produced since the early 1950s. About 60% of that plastic has ended up in either a landfill or the natural environment. More than 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills and incinerators every day – a total of about 22 billion last year.
